Then you're going to like this.

Fransicanus meets Massivorus (graphic)
Six at a time. Small shoals of Massivorus would enter the shallows hiding for the evening. But it is the keen senses of the Dorado that spots them and goes into a feeding frenzy.
Not for the weak hearted....moe you might want to turn away at :14 of the video. Head pops and guts everywhere. This would go on for 15 minutes but 2 minutes of this massacre is enough.

I finally caught up on this thread after a few months. I find this feeding behavior very interesting. I would also slowly drop in pellets, when the first pellet hit the ground they were done feeding. But then again your group from Wes ( same batch as my group ) was always different from mine. Mine started killing each other within weeks. Overall very nice fish and good job on raising them.
Mine were in a 450, yours in a 225. Do you think all the extra space had anything to do with aggression? I'd like to give this another try, hopefully when they come around in a few months. I just moved and am without a tank, my goal is to get setup for the first I when they come back early next year.
Good luck

As I mentioned in this thread, these guys are slow eaters when chowing on pellets. They would let it sink to the bottom and search for them as they circle the tank. If there were other hungry bottom feeders below the dorados would not have a chance.
Jib's and I have the same size tank. Only difference is he feeds tilapia. His dorados attack the fillet with a vengeance. This is good data for people to build on.

In my opinion, I do not believe tank size is a factor in their behavior. However, what I have noticed is aggression does elevate after water changes. I did fall back to WC once per week due to work schedule. I may do smaller WC but more often to see if that does anything. One thing that I don't do is clean the filter. It has been running for at least four years without being opened or backwashed.

Give it another try and remember to ask for the friendly ones this time.

It's a rapid filter I made myself using a pool filter. I have media in it that requires high flow.
Same filter has been running non-stop on this 225g. Has been used on my cichla collection, trevally collection and now dorados. High fish load all reaching 15". Should I be worried about gunk?

Don't you have to replace media once in a while? I too am very low in maintenance with my filter. Only open it once a year. No issues for me either. I've got me a little cascade 1500 lol. Wasn't into filters back when I got it and my life didn't have and fx5s which was the newest model at the time.
