Hi everyone

I'm a long time lurker and I have always enjoyed the discussions. I have a question so I joined today.

We have a 2.5 metre tank (8 feet) x 80cm x 60cm.

We've got a varied tank full of interesting fish which we intend to grow to a good size.

We have 8 spiny eels but my obsession is owning a fire eel.

I know they can't be imported into Australia but I understand they are not illegal to be kept. Is this correct?

I'd love to discuss things with anyone who has one in Melbourne Australia. If anyone breeds them for sale I'd also love to chat.

I look forward to the discussions on the site.

Sorry I can't offer much Australia specific advise. However, as far as I know most are wild caught and difficult to get breeding in captivity.

I've spent another 8 months learning about the hobby. I've grown some of my Spiny Eels to about 6 inches. No fish shops in Melbourne have ever seen a dire eel. I'm still so keen on one. Any help?

Are you still looking for a fire eel? I know someone in Sydney who was selling juveniles for $800 each, and would post them too.

I wanted one so much but can't justify the price, what if something went wrong? :(

Hi Lucy

Sorry for the delay in responding, I was overseas unti this morning. I am definitely interested at that price. (Travis - you appear to be in the US. This price is fine in Australia where our quarantine is much stricter).

Perhaps we could speak on the weekend by telephone or email. I've followed you but I'm not sure how you'd prefer I get in touch with you. Let me know via a private message and I'll get in touch.

Chris

Hi Rounders! Happy to have helped you in this search you've been on for years haha. Yes $800 is fine for Australians. I'll send you my email and the info of the person in a private message! :)

Edit: Apparently I don't have permission to send a private message :/ and the site won't let me post my email in this comment. Are you able to private message me?
