Does anyone have any experience on this species of fish? The only online info I could find was the fishbase where they are said to grow to 21.4 cm.

If anyone has any experience or any other sort of info please share.

Thanks

They seem to be pretty much a unicorn in the hobby.I thought I had come across a very young one so.e months ago but now I am almost certain that it is an afer.

Thanks for the reply K krichardson . I read a thread that was posted in 2009 where someone had asked about congoensis, but there was no real answer given to the asker about captive care, however, in the thread it is suggested that congoensis care is possibly comparable to that of papyrocranus afer. Do you know anything about papyrocranus afer? Since congoensis and afer are in the same genus perhaps captive care is similar for the two.

Im asking about congoensis because they became available to me and I am interested in possibly getting one and housing it with my bichirs. I just want to get a good idea if it will work out or not.

Thanks

Wow,if you have bonafide congoensis available to then I say jump on them!
I don't know if they are more or less aggressive than P afer but because they are so rare in the hobby I would give it a try and see how they settle in and get along with your other fish.
I have had a few afers over the years and currently have one that is well over a foot long and it eats pellets as well as raw seafood. It does tend to harrass some of the other fish on occasion but nothing too serious.
In my experience they can be a bit nippy when newly introduced especially at night as they are nocturnal in nature.

Thanks once again for the reply. So in your experience afer isn't an overally aggressive fish, it just likes it's swimming space right? What tankmates have you kept your afers with?

I read multiple threads stating that afer was a very aggressive fish that kills other tankmates, I was worried that congoensis was just as aggressive. In any case I'll probably try to get one if I can. I'll post pics if I get one.

Thanks

Yes, wetspot is my possible source. I read that Toyin had some a while back on his list. I wonder if he knows much about them. Is he an active member on monsterfishkeepers?
