Tank size: dependant on species, sturgeon range from 2-3 feet to over 14 feet, your sturgeon needs to be able to turn around and have at least 4 times their length to swim in relation to size, many enjoy some current, all but shovelnose sturgeon do not tolerate temps much over 70 degrees long term, they need clean cool to cold water.

Diet: sturgeon eat mostly arthopods and mollusk, never feed them koi chow,they need a high protein diet, acceptable foods include: prawns/shrimp,krill,mussels,clams,fresh squid,some fish,aquatic insects,crickets (hand fed), crayfish and fresh (not bribed) salmon eggs, there is also a sturgeon pellet food, easier to find in the u.k

Tankmates:many fish can be kept with sturgeons, keep in mind they have to tolerate the same temps, some potential sturgeon tankmates: mahseer,almost any true trout or char, salmon, northern or Amur pike,chainpikerel,American eels,bowfin,striped bass, Korean perch,walleye,yellow perch,redfin,Zander,

Other notes: sturgeon can be sensitive to some meds or poor water quality.
Some sturgeons can be kept in salt or brackish water

I've only gotten one or two things pinned, I leave it up to the mods to decide wether anything is worth pinning

The main things are water quality, temps, species, and tank size. I wouldn't attempt to keep any of them except shovelnose, shovelnose can live quite well in warm water (well warm compared to other sturgeons) summer temps in a tank can go as high as upper 70s but winter temps should be allowed to fall in the lower 70s to upper 60s. I keep my native fish at room temperature. Since I have ac this usually equates to mid 70s in the summer to mid to high 60s in the winter. A recent hurricane allowed the water temps to rise into the high 80s with no losses but my mudpuppy wasn't happy.

BTW, shovelnose sturgeons are going to be available this spring! Get your pennies ready boys...

Hey where would I be able to order one? Would they be fine in 72-77 temp the entire year ?
