update on jack dempseys

well as much as id like to be able to tell you my female (i assume shes a female) JD has paired up with one of my other 3 i cant. aggression levels in the tank are starting to rise as i watch everyone take turn at lip locking to prove who's the boss of my tank, 3 of the four of my Jack Dempsey's are too hard for me to sex yet but i believe its 3 males and one female as stated by someone else on this forum. down below i will include a new video i just took showing a bit more in depth of the colors and behavior of my four fish. if you have any comments questions or concerns please leave them below, thanks.
Ps, as soon as my female pairs up with one of my males the other two are free to a good home.

The two at time 1:31 are the dominant couple. What I'm not sure if they are two females or if they are a pair. They 'might' be a pair, but there is a lot of blue on the gill plate of both.

If they are both female, they are fighting to establish dominance.

If they are female and male, they might spawn, although if they are a pair, the female is larger than the male, which has been problematic for me in the past. I've found it really difficult to spawn a pair if the female is larger than the male. T

The smallest two look like males. One has a bug-eye, I'd get rid of that one.

I like your tank. That anubius on the rock will be cool when it establishes itself on the rock! The set up is just fine for spawning.

Everything else is looking good for spawning. You've got space. You've got hiding places. Keep the temp in the upper 70's and let nature do it's course. If after a month or so, there is no spawn, then find a male that is larger than your largest JD in the tank and plop him in.

I greatly appreciate the reply you’re my cichlid idol hahaha, seeing your ebjd made me want to start my own line in the future, yeah my female is much larger even though I got them all from fishy buisness in Longwood when they were all quite small, how can you tell they’re the dominant pair at1:31? I also thought about getting a clay pot so they had another thing to spawn on

Your video does a great job of showcasing their behavior. The two at 1:31 are chasing the other two away ... then they hang out in the middle together.

alright i appreciate it, ill do like you said and leave the other three in then in a month if no breeding's taken place ill find someone with suitable housing to give them too and drop a bigger male in hopefully i can find a store near me with males on hand that aren't huge in comparison.
