Would Platinums tend to be genetically weak like a lot of EBJD are when you breed EB to EB? I've never looked into platinums before so if someone could educate me that would be great!
I have yet to deal much with the platinums. If the spawn in this thread yields them as expected, I will have some experience. In your question you asked about fish that result from EB x EB. I have only breed EBJDs from blue gene pairs. From all the research that I have done and with talking to other breeders, I have not heard of anyone being successful by breeding two EBJDs. As far as how "genetically weak" they are, I have no first hand experience at this time. There are others on the forum that have breed them. I expect them to be similar the the Electric Blues that I am breeding.

The spawn of golds is now approaching the five week mark. I am confident that it does contain platinum Jack Dempseys. I will be separating them soon.

The spawn from post #18 has now been free swimming for a couple of days now. It is relatively small, but I can clearly tell that there are both gold and regular colored fry in the mix at this time. I now expect about 12% EBJDs and 12% platinums to be in the mix as well.

Then there are the fry with the blackish stripes that are the regular colored and possibly the EBJDs. The photo looks a little weird because you also see their reflections in the bare bottom tank. They have just gorged themselves on bbs. You can see their orange bellies.

Here are a couple of pictures of the golds and the platinums. The top picture contains all golds in the forefront. The bottom picture has a couple of golds in the lower left and then three platinums just abouve them to the right. They are a deeper gold color with some light grey partial stripes visible.
