Sorry to come off rude sometimes I see these threads and I think wow! I tagged a member whose consider a acrylic god up in the 6.
No you're not coming across as rude at all. Just trying to help me. I see that. And I appreciate it believe me. If I could get a tank for cheaper I would by all means do so. I guess we'll wait and see what Lepisosteus Lepisosteus says. Maybe he knows of someone.

In terms of the FX6's and other equipment, if you could tag me if you find anything that would be much appreciated.

Sorry you seem a legit guy, especially with that list. If I run across anything on that list I’ll tag you.
The place I found to make the tank for $3000 is in Toronto, which is about 4 hours away from me. The gentleman I am in contact with actually suggested I go with a US company because he thought it would be cheaper. Which gave me more respect for him. But with my checking, his price is actually better when all is said and done.

I've gotten quotes in Canada from other places for $6000 for the tank alone. Which is ludicrous. I figured those ones were just scams. When I contacted US companies, it was always around $2000 US or more. But shipping was ridiculous with the highest being $1600 US. Plus I don't know if there would be duties to pay on acrylic so I guess I could count on it being even more from the US. The Canadian dollar is sure not what it used to be.

I would shoot my own head off if I spent $1000 on two FX6, especially considering they are only BRAND NEW for $259.99 in your country at any store, even cheaper if you buy it on sale. I don’t know where the hell youre finding these $500 dollar FX6. For $3000 that 240g better come with tank, stand, and the truck it came on. You do know how ridiculous you sound. What other equipments are you buying that’s around another $1000? You already not getting a decent light. I’m just trying to help you avoid getting scammed... or waste other people’s time. I can even link you up with Lepisosteus Lepisosteus . He can probably get you a 240g turn key for less than your overpriced FX6.
Sorry... I was just reading this thread... found it interesting you mentioned fx6 filter for $260
I have NEVER seen a brand new fx6 for less than 400 + canadian... not that I care because canister filters are terrible imo.... but I'd love to know where you have been finding these filters... maybe this special store of yours has some other u heard of deals

I am looking for recommendations on what substrate to use for my new tank. I am having a custom acrylic 240 gallon (96Lx24Wx24H) made and will be housing a single 12" Piraya Piranha. I am thinking of maybe using a black background but really want a natural look overall. I can't afford those custom 3D backgrounds at this point, as I'm already spending $7000 on everything (tank, fish, filters, decorations, equipment etc) which is majorly above my budget. I am thinking of putting in a tree stump decoration from Universal Rocks (https://www.universalrocks.com/fish/tree/stumps/ts-007) and some fake plants from Universal Rocks (https://www.universalrocks.com/fish/artificial-plants/ap-006).

I dislike those gravel (larger pebble) substrates and am thinking I may go with a 3mm sand or something like that but I really don't know too much about substrate so I'm looking for your ideas and recommendations on which one to use. I have a Python hose that I will be using to clean the substrate. Do you guys think I should go a lighter color or would that be a bad idea for Piranhas? Should I go black or something? Is sand a safe substrate for acrylic? I can;t have a substrate that will scratch. Please share your ideas!
why so much money that is more then i spent for my custom 480 gallon with cost to cost, black back, lids, stand, lights, sand. i think white sand looks the best. i would stay away from fake plants and just do some dry rock or something like that. to me the fake plants make it look cheap and i hate the maintenance for them because u have to clean them all the time. if you dont mind me asking where did you buy your tank from how thick is the acrylic and what kind of warranty does it come with?

And this is my introduction to the hobby. I'm very new so if I'm making mistakes please let me know. I just don't know where I would find an acrylic tank for less than $1000 and an FX6 for less than $500. Do remember this is in Canadian dollars. $1 US = $1.33 CAD.

I contacted numerous US companies and got quotes for around $2000. With shipping and everything, it would still end up being more expensive. But if you can find these things for cheaper, then again, by all means let me know.
acrylic creations PA call them, 724-841-5403 they have a 240 on ebay right now for 2000 or best offer and do not spend $1500 on FX6. why are you not using a sump it is a custom tank? you can make your own sump or have one made for less then what you are paying for the FX6

I have a used 220 acrylic if it’s of interest? It’s 72x30x24” tall. Dual overflow with 1.5” drains. I would have charged around $2000 for a 96x24x24 240 gallon with 3/4” acrylic and full top brand new. $3000 CDN isn’t a bad price at all. Likely 1/2” acrylic on the one you bought unfortunately

If you buy new you pay money. $7000 isn’t unreasonable for a custom setup. I have not seen new FX6 for under $400 either in Canada.
a
$7000 for 240 gallon? i am happy i dont live in Canada i could not afford my hobby lol and new is not always more money i was looking for a used tank before i order my new one and some people were asking more money then if i was to just get a new one thats why i went and bought new. dont know ca to us but i am under $7000 including lights, filter, substrate, lids, black back custom overflow and modification to my house so i can hold all that weight. all i am saying is shop around make shops bid each other see what one is the cheapest
