Does anyone know what type of flowerhorn this is?

Yeah that is a beautiful Kamfa for sure. I love how the Kamfas get so big and bulky. Hey Ozzie73, I too have only ever had one really nice Kamfa and I couldn't get him to stop trying to rip females faces off, let alone breed. Magnus_Bane keep in mind that if you want koky offspring your females need to be showing some hump. Breeding these fish is a genitic mix up for the ages. But koky females produce way more koky offspring then just a koky male and flat head female.

I have an old 9.9 kamfa that's a total tank but no kok. The kid raised it and it's getting handed back to me next week. I'll try grooming for a bit to see if I can get any results, but my spidey senses are telling me possible female. If that's the case I am not even going to try breeding. It's definitely the bulkiest flowerhorn in the house and would likely shred anything I put in it.

Yeah that's what I've heard. Recently found out that this one I have that I thought for sure was a male turned out to be a female. I'll attach a pic of her, she's got a nice kok but not much for color or aditude. Hard to get a good pic of her with how skittish she is.

Very Nice Kamfa. Do you know if it was being raised with any other cichlids or if it was kept alone?? Looking at this fish is no sure way of telling gender. Even venting Flowerhorns can be really really challenging. I would have suspected, if it was a female, it would have laid eggs by now even if it wasn't kept with a male. Keep in mind that many Kamfas never develope a big kok. High end Kamfas that do develope big kok are often rare and man oh man do they fetch a high price.

Magnus_Bane if you have seen that fish lay eggs you should breed her to a colorful and koky SRD. She has a huge kok! Not common on the females. You would not be disappointed in many or most of the offspring. Don't worry about her not having attitude. Trust me, I know from experience, its so much better to have a female with that type of laid back attitude instead of an aggressive female that tries to kill every male when she lays eggs.

He/she has been in a tank next to some little Africans. Likely not much to show dominance over rather than looking at a snack...lol. I tried to vent before and I thought it looked female but the pics didn't turn out the best and didn't want to spook it any more. I was under the assumption it was male since a pup so never bothered looking. What got me wondering was when I tossed a parrot in there (divider present) and the parrot laid eggs. The fh literally kicked the parrot off the eggs and started fanning them. Probaby one of those video or it didn't happen situations but wasn't prepared for that one. I've had female Texas lay eggs before in with another female in the tank so didn't rule that out. I have the vent pics somewhere on my home computer. I'll find after I get there and post.

To clarify..removed divider after parrot started laying. Kid babysat them...I seen the fh fanning the eggs after.

Yeah I vented her and everything but haven't seen her lay any eggs yet. I'd love to breed her but so far no breeding behavior. Yeah her mother was definitely a mean one tho lol used attack the male anytime he got close to the eggs or fry. He was a great dad tho never once ate any eggs or fry, he'd sit there and fan the eggs and even spit out food for the fry.

I'm still leaning female but if you see something I don't feel free...lol
