So, all change
Decided that since I didn’t have a piraiba in with the Goonch and Learius that they would move into temporary 80g to get the Goonch ready for the pond. Will move the bolt and a mix of others into their old six footer.
So here is the Goonch settling in to his temp. home ready for his move in the next week or so

I just really hope that he does not go behind the second liner with the Wykii. The last thing I need is 28” of Wykii and 20” of Goonch (with some nice teeth now) going at it in between the liners in the pond!
Not sure either how the Jaguar cichlids or Pims will take to the Goonch but they live with red tail Sparata aor, vulture cat and Wykii already so fingers crossed.
Learius can then have the 80g as his own grow on cos at 14” he would not make it in the pond yet.

So, the Goonch has moved into the pond, and as usually happens, you’re alive that what looked a big fish (19”) in a tank, is not so big looking in the8DD4D74A-2A0A-4F39-BAAD-C91642938115.jpeg8DD4D74A-2A0A-4F39-BAAD-C91642938115.jpeg

The vulture cat practically ignored the Goonch’s arrival, only swimming past once.
The variegated (shark)labeo on the other hand turned into pond watchman and spent the next hour letting everyone know exactly where the Goonch was.

And, before long all the smaller fish were dropping by to take a look.

will see how this goes, just hope he gets some food.

Nice progress. Is he eating pellets? Its gonna be tough to get him fish chunks and whatnot with all those boisterous characters in there.

How exactly was the Labeo acting and what do you mean that it alarmed other residents?

The variegated shark was constantly either circling the goonch or sat resting no more than 2 ft away. After a while the other fish started to realize they had a new addition so they would come over to the goonch too. The jaguar cichlid came in twos very nervously approaching from the side. The pims came one by one, each using his whiskers like mine sweepers to go over the goonch and "test" him.
One giraffe came over and after approaching cautiously decided he wanted to sift the gravel under the goonch, so ended up moving him on.
The goonch won't touch pellets so it's a case of trying to find where he is, feed pellets first, then feed the big boys and girls their individual fillets then add the bag of cut up fish fillets and 600g of mussels. And then fingers crossed, if that doesn't work I can see me losing a featherfin or two.

Oh hell, I'm sorry. That's a mighty wound. They're pretty resilient creatures, so hopefully he heals up quick. What's your plan once it recovers?

Wow cubed... Shocked! That is one of the worst wounds or the worst I have ever seen. Very sorry to see this, Dave!

From my experience with vultures, they can create such craters on (almost) dead tank mates. With moving, fleeing and resisting tank mates they would bite not in one spot but over many places, especially fins etc. This crater was made by dozens of bites targeting the same area ripping out a mouthful each time... and based on my description above, the goonch must have not fled or fought. Ouch!

I assume the goonch was still stressed over the move and couldn't defend itself from the comfortable vulture...

Plan for a few months is the plastic mesh quarantine 48” x30” x 12” which I have hung from the surface 2ft away but in line of the inlet pipes. I have also added huge amount of air , even though he’s in the same water as everyone else. May treat the wound directly with iodine or malachite green yet but just watching if/ how it heals as most has gone from salmon-pink to white but there is a worrying blood red patch deep in near his spine.
IF we get through this he may be in this for a while yet, or maybe all change again and back into the 6x2 again to put some more size on, despite it being a little cramped.
