There are multiple sources on how to pronounce the name. Can go with what works for you. I’d go with polypterus.

I believe it is "bee-sheer", at least that is one of those. I flop towards "Bah-sheer"

It came from I believe Arabic (or aomething) abu-sheer

I usually go with Poly/Polypterus, when I do say Bichir however, I pronounce it "Buh-sheer".

In a video by Josh's Fish on YouTube he explains the history of the name, I believe someone mentioned it above as "abu-Sheer" , so I just pronounce it close to that but dropping the "a".
