240 vieja tank progression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Finally have some time to update.

The stock has dwindled down to just a pair of synspillum, a pair of Bifasciatus and an argentea. During the time it was fully stocked, there was way too much aggression. I did enjoy the active community but felt horrible for the fish and knew they could not grow to full potential if I didn't thin the stock down. Additionally, I did lose one synspillum and think it was the Midas, but could be multiple culprits.

For now, the setup is working with each pair owning half of the tank while the argentea hangs out and tough to fend for itself.

Here's some photos.

Beautiful setup, really turned out well.

Apparently getting oak branches is harder than I thought since I don't live in an area where I can just go to the woods and have my pickings. AND since tank is running 2x fx6, I'm hesitant to use sand substrate so I'm going to do fine gravel instead.

Needless to say, I won't reach my ideal scape anytime soon, but will have something that I and my fish can enjoy.

Added a few nice Malaysian driftwoods. Will likely move things around once gravel and landscaping rocks come in, but do like the configuration of large pieces on the right side.

Manzanita currently floating freely. Once it sellers, I plan on securing it to the top somehow.

Where do you get such gravel? Any particular brand?

Tank looks great and so do your fish. I think thinning stock was wise and will allow you to keep your current mix with much less stress. Good stuff!

Yeah, it's just natural progression.

Initially, I loved the idea of community however it's just not natural or sustainable for a long period.
