What about a Freshwater Flounder (Actually brackish), or a tonguefish (brackish as well)
Substrate is just crushed coral and gravel, not sure if a founder would be happy with that.
You could do one of the smaller types of wolf fish, they get 7-9” but are not very active, my red just lurks below the surface like an alligator most of the time
Could a red wolf fit? One of my dream fish but the dimensions just don’t seem right. It’s only 15 inches at its widest.

I would think it would be ok since it’s a pretty stationary fish that maxes out around 8”. There’s also a purple wolf that’s a little smaller. I’m not positive though. I keep mine in a 40b but I’ve seen people keep them in 29s and they seem ok

Mine either does this or just lurks at the surface waiting for food

My ph is usually around 7.6 not sure on hardness. Is that too high for a wolf?
Also I’d imagine tankmates is limited to rocks, water, plants, and meals. Do they eat crustaceans? It would be neat to get some shrimp in there for extra movement/snacks.

That’s around what my PH is and my wolf is doing great. I would imagine any inverts would be food. Shrimp and Krill are his favorite food. I also feed tilapia and silversides with occasional bloodworms

If you get one, you’re gonna want to seal every bit of the top. They’re insanely good escape artists. Also splashing water triggers them to jump. Other than that, mine has been pretty simple to keep

My plan would be heavily plant the tank both high and low so it feels comfortable, put duct tape over openings, and put a rock on the lid.
