You gotta increase your water changes. Meds won’t work well and fish won’t recover if you have bad water quality issues. I’d suggest increasing ur water changes to 50% and adding some seachem prime or safe and adjust according to your water parameters. Then redose the medicine.

all the ammonia absorbing products I bought
I think this may be causing your issues.
I personally don't use these products. The product can complicate Ammonia test.
I suggest adding more biomedia to your filter or add another filter. Also agree with larger water changes.
Tbh I would not follow the advice given by that lfs anymore.

Beautiful eel- looks like its on the thin/lanky side - lthink you are seeing more issues is because your fish is getting bigger in a 75g tank if I read it correctly- that means more frequent water changes like others have mentioned/asked what other tankmates are currently in the tank with it?

For future reference, if you dose a tank and the fish don’t do well, do a large water change immediately. If you discover high ammonia, do a water change.
The first thing I do when there’s signs of trouble is a water change 99% of the time. You’d be amazed at how many things that helps.
I believe that salt is not recommended for scaleless fish, but I can’t remember where I heard that.

I have a Jack Dempsey, clown loach, and a razorback musk turtle. I had others but most died from stress due to the blood parrot fish & Dempsey attacking them or have been eaten. My fire eel “Ellie” is my favorite and it’s breaking my heart. She still hasn’t eaten it’s been atleast a month! Now she developed bumps on her back… I’m doing 10% water changes bc the ammonia is high and PH low and if I do anymore than that a week, I’m told it will kill them. I’m so lost I just need help!

This was supposed to be my husbands thing, I have no idea how to run an aquarium and somehow I got stuck doing it anyways. He didn’t do a water change for months and I know that’s awful and once I realized I tested the waters and sprung into action to remove the fish crap ? so the ammonia will go down.

They told me knot do 10% a week cuz any larger will definitely kill them. The only thing keeping them alive is the Ph levels. Once it raises that’s it. I really appreciate you and everyone’s help with suggestions to help ellie. I love all animals I get so attached like they are my children ? like I cry when a fish dies. A fish ??… so I hope y’all can sense my urgency to want to help her feel better. I won’t stop trying until she’s better or dies.

I’m not sure where you’re getting your info from but you need to increase your water changes. If your fish are from the ocean or a large lake like Lake Tanganyikan where conditions don’t change much, maybe sticking to 10% water changes would be better.

However, your fish come from rivers where conditions such as rain can change water parameters quite a bit so your fish can handle and need regular clean water changes of 30% or more. Especially if ammonia is high or disease is present.

Also that medicine you initially got is toxic to scaleless or sensitive fish. Next time get Ridich Plus or Hikari Ich X as their formulations are gentler and more forgiving.

Try some earthworms or chopped market shrimp to entice the eel.

Throwing a bunch of meds or chemicals in the tank can damage their livers and kidneys and make it harder to recover or go downhill unless you have a specific purpose for the meds.

First and always do large water changes to create a healthy environment so the fishes immune system can rebuild and fight off infection
