Polypterus ornatipinnis breeding thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Of the 300-400 eggs that hatch, about how many make it to the juvenile stage? Are they cannibalistic when they are that tiny?
If there is any accident, most of them will make it till juvenile stage but breeders skill required to stop them eat each others

thats too cute. How do the eggs look and how do you remove them from the tank with parents?

This is eggs of P. weeksii but ornate eggs are look almost the same with this.
I usualy don't take out the eggs from the tank but let parents spawn in seperated spawning tank and take the parents out after spawning.

Removing eggs from the tank have too high risk to damage eggs.

platinum Type 1.

This type has shiny white spots and reletively darker body color than Type 2. (It still much brighter than normals)
It also grow much faster than Platinum Type 2, almost the same speed with normals.

Platinum Type 2.

This one don't have any spots on their body and have cream-white color.
It grow bit slower than Type 1 but absolutly bright.

I will keep both type of Platinums and update how they grow up.
