So i am on another fish forum, where i saw this guy recommending oscars for a 10 gallon tank to a person. Heres the original post of the member asking for stocking advice

And lastly, his response to my post

I mean, when will people learn!? This pisses me off so much.

EDIT: Due to the rules of MFK, i have edited some parts out of the pics.

Ask 10 people, you’ll get ten different answers, I checked out a book from the library years ago called “Oscars” , all about Oscars (astronotus ocellatus) (I forget the author) I think it was written in late 70’s , he recommended no less than 40 gallons. Which may be technically doable but I think you’ll struggle with water quality. I agree with 75g for one specimen but stay on top of water changes. I actually had a 2” Oscar in a ten gallon tank when I started the hobby, doing 100% water change daily, seen this wasn’t sufficient, and upgraded asap to what I was told was 100 gallon but in retrospect 75gallon, it works but I think his growth was stunted by his time in the 10 gallon tank

AR1 AR1 You may not know times of no internet, and people who sold fish at some lfs with no knowledge of how to care for any fish species properly. I experienced this for a few years until aquarium books and magazines started to circulate to the lfs. After 3-4 later the internet so possibly the person had the Oscar during that time.

She kept an Oscar, which grew to 7", in a 10g tank for "several years". Wow! I'm trying hard to picture a thick 7" fish in a 10g tank, but my brain's refusing to compute it, lol.

I don't know what's more astonishing here, the fact she kept that oscar in a 10g tank, or the fact she came out and openly admitted it on a public forum, or the fact she's recommending somebody to do it all again!!

You can't even say, well back in the day this lady might not have had access to internet knowledge or whatever, and didn't know any better. I'm sorry, but just the sight of a 7" fish in a 10g tank tells you all you need to know, you don't need any fish knowledge, just plain common sense!

Agree with esox on that, one only needs common sense to figure out that stuffing a 7 inch fish in a 10 gallon tank is wrong.

Hence the reason I joined other forums as well. So many people out there are either misguiding or being misguided when it comes to fish care, and MFK is one of the few communities that stands out for its quality advice. I’m doing my best to correct misinformation where I see it, and I really wish we could share the valuable knowledge and experiences we have here with other communities too. Hopefully, MFK continues to grow and can be a resource that reaches even further in the future.

I just noticed, she is not a guy. My bad.
Are people completely insane? There's no excuse for such ignorance when information is right at your fingertips.
Exactly. I just got flamed for explaining why glofish shouldn't be sold and die quickly, so much that i needed to delete my comment, which was in response to someone claiming they are perfectly normal.
