I had a yoyo loach do something similar, out the overflow into the sump then somehow days later back to the main tank
I had my return split with a high flow back to the tank and a low flow to my refugium, he must have squeezed past the foam baffles then up the low flow past the barely open valve and rode the high flow back up, crazy. When he got back the rest of the losches crowded around to hear about his adventures, hilarious
