These came with a used tank, there’s some splayed fins for sure. The red color on them, is that normal or is this something that needs to be treated? I’ve never seen silver dollars this red before.IMG_4328.jpeg

That looks like internal bleeding to me

Does look like septicemia. Could be viral or bacterial. Try some maracyn2. Check your water. Keep nitrates below 20ppm.

That seems to be normal coloration to me. Some Myleus schomburgkii from certain collection points like Columbia get deep red like yours. Are they eating and behaving normally? How is the water quality??

I just got them, the came with a used tank so I’ve only had them a few hours. They ate this evening and are behaving normally. Actually more active and less skittish than any silver dollars I ever had before, but also significantly bigger. There are 6 silver dollars, 3 red type 2 black type. Two of the reds are the only one showing this coloration. They also came from a tank with a giant gourami not showing this coloration, and an unidentified fish not showing this condition.

They do have what looks like badly nipped fins, as do the other fish they were in the tank with. They’re in one of my established tanks, not the tank they came in. parameters are ph 7.2, temp 83F, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, 20 nitrates.

Normal. These fish sometimes will turn really red. Weird, orange or red patches are normal. The nipped fins is almost certainly from each other as they love to chase each other around and nip at each other.
When they come in from the wild they are always torn up pretty good. in the wild they shoal with other characins and during a feeding frenzy whatever is in the way is food, including each others fins lol.
83 degrees is what I consider a 'hot' tank. Not many species need water that warm. the fish in the your photos, the silver dollars and parrots will be good in low to mid 70s. 76-77 would be ideal.

Thank you! Hopefully all is well, the high temp is for unpictured Discus.

I also think normal. Hopefully (most likely) the fins and overall conditions will improve with good care , and the group would be impressive. I would love to see pictures of them in a few months.
