Ich or velvet?
New Oscar treated 2 days with top fin ich treatmenet then switched to ich-x. On my second day of that. Hasn’t spread to any of my other fish yet. The Oscar is still hungry and active

kno4te kno4te What makes you think that just out of curiosity? What are the treatments? If I remove the fish from the tank do I need to continue to treat as preventative so my other fish don’t catch this? Again, so far nothing else has any signs of sickness

Since it protrudes from the skin and spots on the eyes that’s why I think it’s that. I’d treat in the main tank. All the other fish are exposed.

I've been getting conflicting answers on this online. Some say they are exposed other say that it is more of a stress or water condition issue which in theory can effect the other fish not the epistylis itself and that epistylis is not directly contagious. Any thoughts on this?
I removed the oscar last night. How would I treat the other fish not showing signs of being sick? Same antibiotic / salt bath routine as if they are showing sign? I may just wait and montior them for sign...

Poor little Oscar

Last Petsmart fish I buy. Knew better but still did it.
I do not think this was a water issue. I keep my water very clean and aerated.
He was very stressed when first put in the tank. Within a few days I saw the first spots show up and began treating for ich the same day. I'm guessing he had an existing bacterial infection and the stress brought it out.

Whenever you buy from Petsmart/Petco you should always quarantine for at least a month. Based on that picture that don't look like a overnight case
I would crank up your heater to 84-86 and treat 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of water do WC every other day for a month

From what I read on epistylis, increasing the water temperature makes things worse and you actually need to lower the temperature.
This was not overnight, this was 4-5 days after the first signs. I did raise the temp day 1 because I was treating it as ich. I think I made things worse by doing so.

Everything gets worse before it gets better. It gets worse because the increase in heat and salt make the epistylis come out and then it falls off hence the need for large every other day WC.
I've had it twice in 20 years and that's what i did
