What is a Red Gar? Is it a species of its own or does it follow a spotted/ florida spotted bloodline with colour morphs? Thank you

I got a gar today, no sure sure which type it is.! Any information on how to keep them will be useful. And dont bug me about tank size i have a concrete pond and a natural pond in my backyard. Thank you. ---
