    300 Gallon Disaster

Hey guys, long time user but created this new account as my old email got lost in a void. I recently bought a 300 gallon glass tank from a local guy in town. Awesome deal on it, and beautiful tank, but it had a problem. Guy said the tank was filled last year up to the 3 overflows with no issues...

    “New” 125 gallon

Got a deal on a 125 gallon tank from FB market place... $50 with stand. Mind you it’s an odd shape 125, 6’ w, 1.5’ deep, and 22” tall. The prior owner had limped this tank along with copious amounts of additional silicone so the clean up will be daunting. Are folks still using GE-1 black...

    Silicone stains

So I am reusing some old aquariums, one of wich is for my alligator snapping turtle. The aquarium is not full, beceause of this the old silicone line for a divider is visible. Does any body have any suggestions to remove this, i have used vinegar and razorblade so far (not with the turtle in it).

    Resealing a tank

hey guys, so I have to reseal a couple tanks. And I read many times that you have to let the silicone sit for 2 days before adding water. But, the silicone I bought, Aquascape clear silicone, says, “allow silicone to dry for 30 minutes before allowing contact with water”. I’m just interested, do...

    Repaired 55g Flooded Fishroom.

Hey guys thanks for the help in advance on this one. I really need to find out what I did incorrectly. Alright heres the story. I purchased a well used 55g in 2015 (sticker says "built by S.M 2003"). As old as it is I wasnt surprised when it sprung a small leak. I thought, No...

Should I be worried about these seals?

So a while ago I concluded a leak test of a 120 gallon tank I got secondhand, there weren't any leaks over the course of around 4 days. Because of preoccupation with work school/work (I'm a graduate student so they're kind of the same thing), I've kind of left the tank sitting dry for a while...

is it okay for plecos to chew on silicone?

In my 150 gallon tank My pleco enjoys chewing on pretty much anything rubbery, such as the air tube on the bubbler and, mainly the silicone. Just wondering if it's okay for him to do that (in case he eats any of it), and if it's okay for the tank.

    AquaMedic Percula 120 sump removal

Hi guys, I recently got a 2nd hand AquaMedic Percula 120 for free from a local guy who was downsizing. The problem is that it has a sump built into the back of it that takes up a good 48" x 6" x 24", so i plan on just using canister filters so my fish can utilise the extra swimming space...

    Silicone Seam Thickness Concern

Hello All! I just assembled a new tank and am concerned I made the silicone seams too thick between the panels. I'd appreciate any feedback from experienced builders. I can take apart and rebuild the whole thing, but would like to avoid that if it's not necessary. I created 3mm seams using the...

    Is my caulk okay?

It’s been about a year since I resealed my 55 gal with GE waterproof caulk. I did let it sit two weeks before adding water. Temp might have fluctuated since I’m in Florida. It looks odd with the air bubbles...does this mean it is unsealing itself from the glass or is it just an amateur job...

    Resealed tank: silicone fully cured?

I've resealed an aquarium with GE clear silicone I about three weeks ago. The surface is fully cured and the acetic acid smell is long gone, but where the silicone is thickest (especially around the bottom panel), I can still see some cloudiness underneath the cured top layer. Has anyone ever...

    180G refurbishment

Hello guys I recently purchased a used 180g cadlights (72 x 24x 24) i plan to reseal the inside since some silicone appears to be damaged by most likely a razor blade style glass cleaner. I also notice the top glass brace is cut to fit the overflow box which i found odd and i would think would...

How bad is Anti Fungus Silicone?

So it's kinda difficult to find an aquarium safe silicone where I live. We don't have GE or DAP or any of that stuff. I've used Bison's silicone before since it's the only aquarium safe one (it had aquarium safe written on the back) but I can't find it anymore. All the other stuff have anti...

    Newly built tank, silicone concern?

If my tank was newly built, like within the last 2 weeks, should I wait a while to fill the tank with water? Somebody at my LFS said he would wait another week or two. He said even though they say the silicone takes 2-3 days to set, he's seen new silicone split when a tank is filled if it...

    Silicone curing time

I made some caves with plastic cup/glasses that I heated formed and covered with silicone and then rolled in sand. I love the outcome but I have no idea how long I should wait before adding them to my Dwaf crawfish tank. I've already waited 24 hours

thickness of my new setup question

So i got a free tank but i don't like the setup its 8' long 2.5' wide and 3' high. What i want to do is buy a 4'x8' and 2x 3'x4'of 5/8 glass so its final size would be 8'x4'x3' all 5/8 glass. The front and back would be tempered as that the old glass is. Tank 8'x4'x3' all 5/8 mix tempered and...

Best Silicone for resealing large tanks

So in a previous post I picked up a 250 gallon that turned out to be a 275 gallon for cheap since it just needed to be resealed from a small leak on one of the side seams. I have cleaned out the inside and am to the point of getting ready to strip the old silicone but am still not sure of what...

GE clear silicone II Mold Free Safe or Not?

Okay, So i recently used this silicone to attach some slate stone decor for my tank and my sump baffles. I have searched and got confused as some people say it's safe and some not.
