I've been using a glass Marineland heater on my 6ft 125g for almost 5 years now with no issues.
I don't remember exactly what wattage it is though...it was the highest watt version the LFS carried back then. My guess is 300 Watts, but maybe even 250, not sure.
I keep my tank @ around 82 fahrenheit. A month or so ago when I was treating Ich, I kept it at 86 with no fluctuations (it was probably running non stop though).
I've seen other people here recommend having 3-5 watts per gallon though...
I use (2) 300 watt heaters on my 150g, I keep temp between 78-80, by using 2 heaters the water gets back to normal faster after doing water changes in which the water is somewhat cooler. Also, as a safety measure if one heater stops operating, there is still a heater operating until the other one can de replaced.
I have two heaters on my 125, one at each end. They are the cheap whisper heaters.
One is the 150 watt model and the other one is 200 watts. So I have 350 watts going and it seems to heat the tank efficiently.
