Hello I recently picked up a 125gallon and need help with stock ideas. I definelty want a poly but I'm not sure what kind. I don't want to upgrade too too much most likely nothing more than another 100 gallons. So I don't want anything that gets CRAZY huge but I do want one that will reach a decent size. Also one that is has nice colors so give me suggestions! I also want more fish to go along with him/her. Are they better to keep with pairs. And what fish could tank with it. I do like "different" fish like oddballs and what not but am open to any suggestions. Thanks!

If you want nice colors, you should look at palmas family, like gold dust, palmas palmas or palmas polli.
Imo ill get palmas palmas and palmas polli, both grows to 12". Delhazi is nice too, one of my favorites.

I guess a lot will also depend on what you expect from the fish themselves. Some polys are pretty active and others are lumps. Pretty much you cant go wrong with a senegalus or delhezi for activity level. Both are very out going and interesting fish but they are not big by any means. For me my teugelsi and weeksii are fairly active and visible fish. My lower jaw seem more sedentary but also make a huge impact when they come out looking for food because they are big. So activity level might be something you want to consider too.

If u don't want something that is goin to get 24+" but still get bigger than 12" or so go with captive bred endli, ornate, lapradei, and teugels I they will still hit around 16-18" but won't get huge

I never had a palmas palmas, but i heard they can be active. I have a gold dust that its has nice colors and patterns but its pretty shy, i have a palmas polli and delhazi which is non stop swimmers, appetite for both are crazy, i mean will eat anything insight. Both species look different from each other, palmas polli have round patterns, delhazi look like a tiger strips and palmas palmas look like a combination of palmas polli and delhazi.

+1 and as far as other oddballs, you can go with medium sized catfish or characins, maybe some gobys like a jade or water cow. Just gotta watch out for sizes, they're all predatory.

I always wanted to do an African 'oddball' community tank. I would have a couple top swimmers like butterfly fish, along with a nice school of Congo tetra mixed with African red eye tetra. Maybe an Afican brown knife and leaf fish. A small group of a smaller synodontis cats and maybe a delhezi and a small group of ropes.
