You mean wood right? Check out what he did to this 4" diameter, 30" long log I pulled out of the river to feed him. The photo was taken less than 24 hrs after putting it into the tank. Now the log looks perpetually spotless. The dark areas are where the log was once charred, and he avoids this spot because apparently, charred wood doesn't taste very good.

Hi,

1. Panaque Sutoni or Suttonorum
2. Panaque Cochliodon

i hope someone can shade some light here. i have total 9pcs collected over the years. but looks to me have 2 type in my collection. 1 type is shorter body and more hump on head and back. thanks.

From my quick skim of planet catfish, the differences may be where these are collected. Suttonorum is supposedly from Venezuela, while Cochliodon is supposedly from Columbia. Not sure about other differences. See

There is only one species, Panaque Cochliodon. The two other names were used before it got its current name, Cochliodon. I will add some links so you can read it for yourself. :)

Its true that it does look like there is two diffrent types/species. But its more likely that they are actually males and females of the same species, Cochlidodon.

Males are more plumb, with spikes in 4 lines from the head all the way down to the cadual fin.

Females are more slender and without the spikes down the sides.

I have added a pic of a typical male. I have no prove for this male/female theori.

We will se when i start my breeding project. :)

Back ten years ago I purchased a blue eyed pleco for 14.99 from a pet shop here in El Paso. I really regret not taking care of him more than I should have. I had him and another common pleco in a tank with 8 red bellied piranha as these fish were pretty much all I could have with them. They eventually got to him. Sad! Sad! Sad!
