150 GALLON STOCKING?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey all, new to the forum and was wondering about some suggestions to do for a 150 i acquired. Interested in any type of freshwater fish and completely open to any suggestions. Tank dimensions are standard 150 at 72in long x 18in wide. Running 2 large sponge filters rated at 60 gallons each and 2 FX6 canister filters. Thanks all
Welcome aboard

And the second thing for us to know is, what type of water will you be using to do your water changes. If you don't know and you live in the USA, your water department is required to publish a water quality report yearly. In this report you can find out if your water is soft low PH or hard high PH. With this info we can then suggest fish that will live comfortably in your water.

Also Welcome to the fishy family!

There are a ton of options for a 150 gallon tank. Personally I am a cichlid guy, would do either a community of CA or SA cichlids, or a big lone male of something aggressive like amphilophus, parachromis, vieja. Another cool option would be a fahaka pufferfish.

Welcome to MFK mate. You'll basically find it all here...including loads of different opinions. It would narrow things down considerably, and be helpful to know, what type of fish interest you? Cichlids? Catfish? Predators? Community? Peaceful? Aggressive?
I do have a great love for it all but I would say I'm looking more towards cichlids, predators, and aggressive

The water in my area is very close to neutral at 6.8 as well as me using some dechlorinator and other things like almond leaves or crushed coral as needed to mess with the ph

I've definitely considered all of the above and a fahaka definitely has my attention would be awesome but would the 18inch width be enough for it? Same thing with parachromis the only ones I can seem to find are dovii and mangunuese

At 6.8 you want to look into southern american cichlids. Maybe an Oscar?
