So, a little back story on this. I have a 160g I'm trying to reseal. My first attempt on this didn't go well. I'm finding it very difficult to apply sealant and pull tape off before the sealant itself starts skinning over. Needless to say, I'm having to start all over on this. It's very discouraging and really sucks after all the hard work I've already had done only to have to start all over. . I took a couple months, left it alone. I'm going to start on it again soon. Is the taping really necessary?
I mean, I get it.. It makes sense if you want perfect looking edges and less of a mess to clean afterwards but.. I'm curious, is it something that's going to be anymore stronger whenever the cured sealant that has tapered edges vs non-tapered edges? I feel like one would be missing out on the extra sealant itself. I don't need something that looks perfect 100%. I feel as having the little extra sealant there is more reliable and going to be more durable in long run.. The only downside I can think of is the longer curing time, which I won't be ready to fill for another few months.. Anyway, anyone with experience resealing aquariums able to chime in here would greatly appreciated. What's your opinion about it? ?

No tape not necessary more of a cosmetic thing like you stated wanting it to look nice and perfect. The most important is placing the correct amount of of Sealent and let it cure completely.

Tape the primary viewing pane and leave the rest.

Silicone this pane last.

That's kinda genius actually. I love this ideal, especially with the larger aquariums. ?
It is essentially the approach I take to cleaning glass as well lol. Only need one pane to look through!
