Hopefully this will inspire someone out there to realize that you don't have to be rich to make a mega tank for their catfish! MCL unite!Mystus Redtail;2027448; said:Excellent. Way to raise the bar even farther in the world of catfish keeping.

Love you too.........I think!! Are you blonde, 5' 7", wearing pig tails, a school girl outfit, and 6" heels? lol, JK You're like the third person on here to give me that title! All catfish bow before me!!!!!Kobeclone;2032948; said:I love you necrocanis. I think you have chanced the latin meaning of necrocanis from "dead dog" to "catfish god" Keep up the good work. I will be watching this thread...
if you read the entire thread you will realize that I am building this. It's no where near complete. The section in the pics like basslover said is just one side of the tank. It's about 1/4 of the way through the skeleton. I am working from the left to the right adding 1 board at a time. Sorry for any confusionspexmoneymaker;2033517; said:its funny how these things look smaller in pics. is that thing really 18ft long?
Sweet!cassharper;2034951; said:quite impressive!

Yeah they are going to be around 4" thick still lol. When it's finished I think I'll build a ramp on the side and park my sherman tank on it.cvermeulen;2042288; said:Subscribeage.
I like your construction technique. I've always kind of figured the standard would be a house-like framing skeleton with plywood skin, but this incorporates some structure along with the skin, so your walls don't wind up 6" thick.
Oh and Chompers buddy... Watts per hour?
Shooting for the end of October, but funding is an issue for the glass, so who knows! I could get everything done, and have to save up for the glass, and that could take a while!TLkmDN;2042374; said:damn man...gona b hawt...wens ure estimated time of completion?
I've struggled with this idea also. Some of the econo studs look really cool and would look even cooler clear coated. Problem is that I am sheeting the inside and outside for extra stability, and the only thing I can think of to negate doing the outside would be making it double thick ply on the inside. I know it would only take away less than an inch of space, but I am trying to leave the inside measurements as large as possible, and I just will sleep safer if the outside is also sheeted in plywood. I am also going to build a mural on the wall behind it to showcase it's construction. So the craftsmanship will not be lost due to it being covered. I have you to thank for that idea!danz;2042386; said:THATS WHATS SHE SAID!!!
sorry had to do it.
This is a cool build and like the idea of the staggering 2x4 with glue and screws. Your going to need lots of pizza and beer to move that bad boy into its final home. Are you going to leave the 2x4 natural on the outside and stain/poly the outside? I am starting to really dig the look of it and would be a shame to cover it all up. Got to show off some of your hard work!
Yeah, I am doing this and in the future will be adding two 200 lbs capacity biowheels if needed. Not sure how to figure up the capacity for a filter, but I should have around 250 gals of pot scrubbies in this bad boy! Not at first of course, but will buy and add them over time! That's the price of not having money to spend on this lol.Kevaldo;2042514; said:looks great so far, im going to be starting a plywood 8'x5'x4' in the new year for my rays. i like your idea with the filtration i have seen somthing like that before but olny with 2 45gl drums at once.
It's actually a picture of my False tig that I cropped and pasted onto the back of the tank in google sketchup. I love that program. I did the full build board by board on this program so that I could get an exact estimate on what I still need for materials. Good luck on your pond!oscar n redtail cat;2043008; said:like the tig in the tank and yet it will be 1 big tank im starting my indoor pond soon
Thanks!!severum1;2043105; said:Wow. Great job. I want to see this finished.
Yeah I know, but it will all be worth it. I take great pride in anything I do myself. I hope I don't let everyone down on this build, but I am super excited to get back to work!RexFish;2043185; said:Thats a lot of work you need to do to get id finished. It going to look really good once its finished, cant wait.
