Hey all! First time poster here with a question and looking for some suggestion on my newest tank! (Also posted in general form)

I think its a 210
Dimensions are :
96.5 long
30.5 tall
18.4 wide

So my question has to do with the width of the tank and if it's enough room for an Oscar to make its U turn?
I'm really hoping to get 2 Oscars (vail tails) for this tank but would like to make sure that they have the adequate space before I even attempt to bring this tank to life.

Also new to acrylic and was wondering what kind of algae eater would be best? I hear plecos like to scratch up the tank.

Best wishes and thank you all in advance!

Welcome to the forum!
The tank is about 234-235 gallons ((length x width x height)/231)
I think that the 18 inches would be a little cramped for an Oscar (though it is doable). Something like a Jack Dempsey (looks similar) or a chocolate (acts similar) would be more suited for the tank’s width.
The larger plecos aren’t the best algae eaters, bristlenose are very good at it though and are about 6 inches max.
TBH the best algae cleaner is your hand and some kind of scraper.

As I imagined. Dang. (I might try it if there's still a chance.) I currently have my electric blue JD in my 150g was hoping to put em in with the O's (after gaining some size) might just get a single O for 150 after my move & swap everyone to proper tanks sizes.

Bristle Nose are on my list! Noted!
Yea I'll likely have to a lot of hand scrubbing with em by a large window

Thank you! :)

If you will get oscar veil tails, chances are that the ebjd will do some chasing or the other way around and you will have torn veil tails. You could still try the veil tail oscars and see if they even get past 12” (without the tail). Specially man made fish like veil tails don’t always get to 16” due to inbreeding.

I would figure the Oscars doing more of the chasing or starting the fights. My JD is really timid hides from his tank mates ( x2 4inch goldfish & 2 minnows 2in (( JD is about 6 inch?) but I am aware with more competition & space it might change its attitude.

Already expected to stock up on meds for fin rot, hole in head, etc. First time trying to get a vail tail. Had a tanky Oscar 6-8 years back. Sadly passed due to a shortage with my filter in the middle of the night in my spare tank :(

Thank you for the info & thee advice! :)

I think oscars would be fine for least 2-3 years if not permanent depends how big they get. I’ve seen oscars max out as small 10-14 inches and if they don’t exceed that range that would be ideal if you want to keep them in there permanently.

Ebjd are known to be more timid than the regular ones, but may change its attitude when cichlids are involved.

Torn tails aren't always a sign of fin rot. It happens with excessive chasing or being chased too much.
