i picked up this heep pretty cheap
wife hated it

after a little hard work

i still need to finish stand and make a background

How did you do the aluminum frame? it looks awesome! im actually sort of taking on the same task now...just not as bad

frame is 1 1/2 inch aluminum angle cost about $80 total
its siliconed in place i did it for added strength and to hide chips on corners

That is kick ass! Retro look awesome...what color are you gonna paint the stand? Put rattan pieces in the front and on the sides to cover the gap.. Itll look amazing.

That looks so awesome with the aluminum....did you strip all of the old stuff and just glue the aluminum to it? Is the only structural integrity created by the glass on top?? This is a very interesting and spectacular looking restoration!

I'll be the devil's advocate. By the way, very nice work you have done to that tank! My question is similar to rallysman, in that if the old vinyl frame was taken out, and replaced with a "glued on" aluminum frame, how is the support for all the sides, top and bottom? Did you have to weld the aluminum?

I'm taking notes on the next used tank I get :)
