So I'm setting up a 30 gallon hill stream tank with about a 900 gallon per hour flow rate. Most of the flow will be aimed at the bottom of the tank. I'm planning to get all your regular bottom dwelling hill stream species, but I'm in need of some fish for the midwater. Im tempted by Odessa barbs and Danio choprae (glow light danio) but I'm not sure how they will cope with such aggressive flow. How would these guys fair? Any other suggestions are more than welcome but I'd would like to avoid any mention of zebra Danios or white clouds as ive kept loads of those in the past and I'm looking to try something new.

Have a look at some Barilius sp.

Good mid to top water shoaling fish that love swimming against the current.
They look dull and silverish in store tanks. But once settled in your home aquaria, they are stunning. In both colours and activity.

After a quick look on the web I couldn’t find any information on Barlilus species that were a suitable size for my tank. Sadly I also doubt that my LFS will stock them
