Any chance you'll be incorporating some LED strip lighting(for mood) into the hood/headboard?

Well I have it set up finally. I put in substrate a few days ago and it's super cloudy. I used a variety of stuff. Peagravel mixed with 1" riverrock on one side with a large oak stump, then it transfers into play sand (the cloudy culprit) and then A 3x3' area of mixed peagravel sizes that I'll be planting a lot of corkscrew Val.

Currently I have two diy 5g. Bucket canisters at 1000gph running with lava rock and polyester fill, and a 1200gbh recirculating pump inside. I also have a fx6 I will be installing but has been seeding on my 75g with my tropical gars.

I hope that clears up soon. I'm tired of not being able to see around in there.

Currently I have two fluval plant led's on one side and just a dual florescent strip on the right. I liked the idea of minimal light where the plants aren't growing but I may need to buy more lights. Also, I'm fishless cycling for the first time ever. Ace ammonia. So I'll see how that goes. I guess I have plenty of time for the cloudiness to go away since this may take a while.

Any insight or opinions on if that'll be sufficient filtration? I'm keeping gar.

  • Looking great dude ! Not sure about the DIY canisters. Never messed with one myself but as long as you have enough media and flow I don’t see why they won’t do the job.

yeah my first time too. But they hold as much or more than a fx6 which claims to be good for 400g, but imo more like 200-250. So I basically will have 3 of those on the tank. That's my thought process at least with choosing this. Since it's just on the other side of my bed, I didn't want a wet dry noise. These just make faint "hums". The bubbles from the 5" air disc make more noise really.

This is amazing! Nice work, tank will be getting turned over 5 times an hour, sounds pretty good. Cant wait to see those trops in there.

I decided to just drain out half of the water to speed up the cloudiness. I can deal with no fish, but murky water bothers me. Still not clear, but getting much better
