I posted this before but had no responses. Please advise.
I have a 55 gallon long glass aquarium. Probably 30 years old and has been in storage for 20. I would love to reseal it and use it as a sump for my 110 gal Cichlid setup, but the top frame and bottom frame are broken beyond repair. All the plastics on my older stuff is brittle and broken. Question. Is the plastic frame for appearance or is it structural? This tank has 1/2" glass. (Correction, I think it is 3/8") I have watched some videos and taken the old silicone off. Before I spend my time taping and recaulking, will it hold up without plastic trim? Thanks!
