Saw a tank for sale recently, an older 125 w no center braces on the top. What is the overall thought on these tanks, can I add braces, should I? Thoughts please/?

Yeah it holds water, have seen that part. Am just concerned..I know these tanks bow a little in the front and have heard they were ok but it just worries me. Also, I am not sure exactly how I would add two center braces. hmm

yup. if it was not designed with one it doesn't need it.

the old style braceless tanks were built with thicker glass and did have a slight bow to them that was normal.

the only real reason to add a braces or braces is that you can then find a standard glass top that will fit. as all large tanks these days have braces so the glass tops are in sections.

other than that, there is no reason to add a brace on an older braceless tank.

If it's something you're gonna be worrying over, just make a brace/bracket out of steel or wood. You really only need a piece of material with channels cut out where you want the glass to slide into. The brace will keep it from spreading. I'd go with steel/aluminum over wood for this application. You can even buy the steel pieces at Home Cheapo, and just channel it out with a grinder/metal rasp/ hack saw to allow the glass to fit into. It won't be the most attractive but you can paint it too.

Just a thought.
