I have 2 EB Acaras 4”&6”, one 10” Oscar, a school of 11 guppies, two 3” yo-yo loaches in a 120 gallon tank. Water parameters are very good other than hard water, light is on 12hrs per day, water is 80 degrees. There are turtle shell fragments, and a couple of pieces of a coconut in there that the male has been building “nests” out of for 2-3 months now. Literally all the male does is rearrange and clean these items and follow the female around flashing his fins at her. Look at how beautiful and beefy he is!! What am I missing here?

You may have a Steve and Steve, not Steve and Sally, get my drift. EBA are very hard to sex till you actually see them breeding. If you are wanting to breed them might want to get a few more and let nature takes it course. Seldom do fish ever play by what we want them to do.

Well the one that is clearly a male (I can see the pointy hardware) is very convinced the other one is a female.!she also appears to the thicker hardware barely sticking out.

If convinced you have both you can try raising the temp a couple degrees and doing a couple massive water changes back to back, this makes them think its spring time.

My regular bule acara tooks months of him shaking leaves and dancing at her. What seems to do the trick for me is upping their frozen food intake(brine, krill, worms, the good stuff)
