Well that was interesting. I had thought I had guppy fry growing in my smallest tank. (They are the only fish in there now.. )

They were really tiny for a long time, but courtesy of my wifes photography I can pretty much say these aren't guppies.. They are about a third to half an inch long now. They all look slightly different and seem like mutts.

Chris, you do know that the Ultimate Hybrids are mules, right?
;-)

I'm still amazed. I refused to believe I actually had a hybrid, but considering the diversity I think its clear. Some have guppy tails, others flat molly style and others what looks like the "fathers" lyretail.

Just goes to show the "impurities" in these breeds that you can get this much variety. Even features neither parent manifests! There are only 6 remaining of 11 that were originally spotted and saved from the big tropical tank. When they grow a bit more I'll try to get pics of all of them to show comparisons.

I had similar experiences with fancy guppies, bought a couple of each gender, threw em in the planted tank. Grew out about 40 fry, and not one resembled any of the parents. I fed all except one to my bichirs.

Wait and all the parents were guppies? Wow.

I had heard you had to do a LOT of culling when breeding guppies but I didn't even know you could breed mollys and guppies. Google searches resulted in questionable pictures that were either suspected or proven to be fraud. Others said it was possible but had never seen it.

If you want to do serious guppy breeding, you need to buy certified pairs/trios and let them breed exclusively. The fancy guppies may look nice in the average lfs, but they have the craziest genetics out there.

Most the females came out super plain, or with a few endler spots, unlike the colorful moms. Most the males resembled endlers, one resembled a dad, and one is a crazy assortment of colors who constantly changes colors as it grows.

I wasn't setting out to breed anything at all! I only had one molly and one guppy. I had heard that guppies could store sperm for a very long time, but when they started looking like my balloon molly I was surprised at the cross breed.
