I have hit a little snag on my renovation of my 300G acrylic aquarium. I finally have most of the silicone removed from the tank. I am ready to repair the crack with Weld on 4. But I cannot seem to open the bottle! I am thinking the lid is twist off and then there is something I need to puncture?

And to glue the black acrylic sheets to the bottom with weld on 40... how do I apply the weld on 40 with any kind of control so I don't make a complete mess of the bottom? With a bottle? What kind of bottle? Can I mix the 40 into a glass container and then brush the substance onto the bottom of the aquarium with a sponge brush?

Thanks again for all that reply with suggestions. I do appreciate it.

Cheers,
Kayte

Okay... I spoke to soon. :) I managed to twist off the cap of the weld on 4, so I am good to go there. I am still puzzling over applying the weld on 40? Should I buy some syringes from the pharmacy? Would that work? As the acyrlic is black do I have to worry about bubbles?

I'm pretty sure that wednesday13 gave you explicit instructions in your other thread so you might want to check there until he sees this thread. Specifically check out posts #48 and #61.

Go to the dollar store and buy a couple squeeze ketchup/mustard empty bottles, that may help application. Just be careful because it's gets hot quick, but also don't go too fast or you'll get crazing.

D deeda ... I read the post again specifically ones you referenced. Wednesday refers to "applicator bottle". As the kit did not come with an applicator bottle like one can get with weldon 3 or 4, and I cannot find any reference to a specific type of applicator for weld on 40, I though I would ask the forum separate from my original post now that it is 8 pages longs. As I never have mixed this stuff up before I do not know the viscosity of the liquid. I am thinking it is too thick to move through those tiny needles like applicator bottles that go with weld on 3 and 4.

D davenmandy ... Thank you for your helpful suggestion. I did not see any ketchup/mustard empty bottles at the dollar story when I went yesterday but I wasn't really looking for them specifically. So I will check again tonight. If not there then Walmart is just around the corner. I am sure I can find it there. :)

Ya, but I would ask that wednesday13 wednesday13 confirm this though because those plastic bottles are pretty thin, and with the weld on getting that hot and the fact that it is plastic as well I wouldn't want the weld on to react to it. It was just an idea I picked up somewhere, but I trust his word over my memory.

thanks for the backup/help guys! Been busy over here as always and havent had a chance 2 respond, my good ray/fish friend and his wife from Utah came all the way to Ohio just to visit me and my fish/setups :)...O.p. Ive used the cheap ketchup/mustard trype bottles u see at restaurants many times and also any kind of cheap plastic bottle with a decent sized tapered tip on it as #40 is a thick syrup consistency glue/epoxy. My fiance is a hair dresser and she gets me supply of the plastic color applicator bottles aswell. Plan on buying a handful... The #40 will harden and can be removed but its kinda hard when using the bottles with a screw on lid/lip. After each batch of glue u run through them turn the bottles upside down over papertowels or a throw away container to let the excess run out so u can reuse them... The tips of said plastic bottles can be cut to ur desired size also. Ive instructed others who used large style syringes but again the glue is fairly thick and u need to cut the tips large enough to accomidate and plan on destroying a few. O.p. u have alot of area to glue so id go with a color type applicator bottle and mix around 100ml of glue at a time. You want to be laying down atleast 1/4" bevels with ur glue to provide a decent seal making sure to fill in any gaps in between ur sheets and the sides of the tank. It is also possible to buy empty chaulk tubes, fill them with ur mixed #40 and inject the glue into gaps but a hair color type applicator bottle is my go to tool for most small or precise glueing jobs. You can also pour right out of ur mixing cups for larger area coverage. Reread through the post i made on ur old thread for mixing tools/measuring ratios and a few other tips/tricks to keep in mind during the process... Im sure u think i dileberatly ignored u with ur previos comment but thats not the case, ive been entertaining out of state fish friends in real life lol..

surprisingly #40 does not stick to these kinds of bottles... it does not adhere at all to any petroleum based product/plastic like polypropolene/polyethylene
