One of my NTT has been developing hole in the head for over a month now. I am not a 100% sure if it's really HITH, and I have included pics.
Here is more info on how it happened:
- fish was bought healthy about 8 months ago at around 1.5 inch.
- was primarily fed on feeder guppies and bloodworms.
- was in my 110 gallons grow out with another NTT, an indo dat, two kelberi bass and three clown loaches (all fishes under 5").
- filtration: two canisters, API XP3 and Marineland Magnum 350.
- nitrates stayed usually under 20ppm and water changed are done twice a week (25% once and 50% the second wc).
- I have noticed the NTT started to developped HITH when I starved him to feed him on pellets.
- This particular NTT took Hikari Carnivore Sinking pellets after one week (thank god) and has been fed with them only for about a month now since then.
- I am not feeding guppy feeders anymore to all my fishes.
- I tried treating the fish with API aquarium salt for over two weeks, and first attempted to just wait for the HITH to go away with clean water, aquarium salt, and good diet.
- HITH condition hasn't improved on the NTT, the other fishes are fine.
- NTT has been in my quarantine tank for 2 weeks now, 25-50% water change done every day with about 5ppm, and carbon has been taken out of filter.
- API General cure was first used (per LFS advice) for 1st week of quarantine with no improvement.
- API General cure treatment stopped after 1 week, and Prime Paraguard has been used for a week now, still no improvement.
NTT has been pretty stressed in the quarantine tank, looks darker than it used too in my grow out. He doesn't touch his pellets now and looks kinda thin. Two options I have to consider now:
- Do I keep using medicated methods, methadonzole (not sure of spelling), might be next?
- Do I just put him back in the grow out tank hoping HITH would go away?
Thanks
