My pair of Aequidens sp. inrida spawned a couple of weeks ago.

They're a (my opinion) really pretty blue acara-type fish. Males get to about 4" and the females are much smaller.

My pair is alone in a 20L and eats Kensfish flake, NLS and red wiggler worms.

The babies are tiny but were able to eat the next to smallest size of Golden Pearls (I used an airline tube to blow some down to them 3-4 times per day).

They're now a couple of weeks old, still tiny, but actively hunt down food.

The first (bad) pictures are of the pair (male larger) and eggs (in flower pot) and the last is the fry (kinda blurry)...

looks cool, i have one very similar looking, but labeled aequidens Atabapo, is there a big difference between these? I heard mine was just put under that name because of sales, and they are fairly new.

Are they that gold in person dogofwar? Or is it a reaction to the flash? Very beautiful, are they as sensitive as other fish from the Inrida river?

honda237 - There are two undesribed acaras from the Atabapo, a blue acara (Andinoacara) type and a true acara (Aequidens) type. Jeff Rapps has had the true acara one occasionly, and the blue acara one once so both are out there. They look nothing alike lucky, so a pic should show which you have.

Yes - they're very sparkly ;). I'll try to get a good shot of the male. He's got really nice fin extensions. They're pretty shy fish so getting pics is tough, especially if you're as photographically challenged as I am

I don't do anything special for them - weekly water changes, quality feeding, etc. I think the live red wiggler feeding pushed them to spawn

I'm also a bit suprised at the luck I've had with feeding the tiny fry. Knock on wood

Are these peaceful, warm-water cichlids? I may need some of these fry, too. I like that they stay small; I need some more 55 gallon inhabitants.

mine came from rapps, she is really shy and turned in a to a picky eater. My is blue with sparkles on her. I can try to get a picture later.

dogofwar, those are some really interesting fish. Wouldn't mind having some.
