I don’t see why it wouldn’t. As long as temps and filtration are adequate.
They raise them in ponds and concrete vats in south Florida fish farms.

I always wondered about an above ground pool to use as a growout and how it would work with Africans Cichlids.

What do your winter temps go down to? I just moved to Houston Texas and was thinking of doing something similar both at my house and my dad's. I posted here about it

My dad and I are planning on building a pond at his house in Texas. We aren't sure the size yet but it'll be in the thousands of gallons. We are thinking half underground half above, maybe with a viewing window. Here's the catch. We are going to try and keep tropical fish. As we're in Texas...
