Aimara with small tetras ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had my wolves with an Edler colony and a red cherry shrimp colony. Worked great for many years. They served as clean up crew!

Also: check out this old thread. The OP hasn’t been seen in 5 years, but his setup was really cool

My 10'' Hoplias Curupira, my 8'' Gold Wolf, and my 5'' rainbow wolffish all live in a 125 gallon aquarium. I had to put 12 albino tiger barbs about 3'' in there because they were constanty nipping my angelfish in the community tank. Thought it would be good since I feed the wolfs every day and they never bother the large oscar, catfish and silver dollars they live with. It went well for a week. Well today there is about 1 or 2 albino tiger barbs left unless they are gone. My black wolf had a big bulging belly last night. I think it may be because they were albino but not sure.

I like the look of the big-fish/little-fish set-ups...but they have to be done right. The big fish must be BIG...and the little fish must be very little, and also fairly numerous. HarleyK HarleyK has the perfect set-up.

Three-inch Tiger Barbs, along with wolves in the 5-to-10 inch range? That will just look like a very expensive feeding frenzy...which, coincidentally, is what the above example turned into.

I had success in the past with a large Giant Gourami (15-ish inches) living with a colony of guppies; he never paid them the slightest attention, but he never tried to eat any other fish of any size so that was an easy one. I also recall that the King of DIY had a large tank containing a single large Asian Arowana and a large number of small tetras...neons, I think? That set-up, like the wolf tank belonging to HarleyK HarleyK , relied upon the size disparity being so great that the little guys were simply beneath the notice of the big predator.
