What the the differences between the alli gar and florida gar? My lfs has a gar for sal just wanna make sure which one it is. It is labeled as gator gar.

most likely its a florida/spotted gar.. and not a alligator.. alligators are gray in color with no spots like Florida gars..

Florida are smaller and are usually white with black spots on their body and fins..

Thanks. I hate when the LFS have mislabeled species.

usually alligator gars snout look more alligator and spotted looks more skinny

check the stickies. they provide everything you need to know to be able to tell between the 2 species

check the stickys. pics would help if you wont us to tell you what they are

Gator gar have a broader snout. Floridas will have more of a pointed snout and don't get nearly as big as a gator gar will.

The main difference between a gator and a florida is that they are members of 2 separate genus. Gators are Atractosteus and Floridas are Lepisosteus.
