Hello all,

I had 8 wild discus shipped to me yesterday and they arrived in rough shape. 3 were near suffocation and water was leaked in the bags.

After letting them settle overnight, all seemed to get back in shape except for one. It appears it has ammonia burn with a lesion created on its flank and the soft tissue on its caudal fin eroded away with the rays exposed and shredded. There are also some raised white bumps under its dorsal and the lower part of its flank over the anal fin.

I currently have all 8 in a 75 gallon quarantine tank. This is the only qt tank I have. I have treated so far with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 15 gallons for a total of 5 tablespoons. I'm doing daily water changes of 50 percent.

Now, 6 of them are eating. One is still spooked. And the last one is the one with the issues. That one doesn't even look at the food.

I haven't treated any meds yet. I will if I notice any white feces or anything.

Water pH is 6.8, temp at 82.

Please advise if you can steer me in the right direction.

Here are some pics.

I doubt its ammonia burn, the exact cause????Maybe a physical injury with secondary infection

i doubt it is ammonia burn. It is probably some kind of rot on the fins but not sure about the skin lesion. When I was doing the panda uarus we would get fin rot like that. I would treat it typically with ich quick cure for the malachite green. It worked wonders on the small pandas. Last year when I moved pair to their 180 one was coming down with it and salt cleared it.

If the salt does not resolve it i would do a dip with quick cure

Thanks Charney. Do you advise I dose the 75 with malachite green?

The fish was damaged prior to shipping IMHO

This is very dissapointing....I'll try salt and do a malachite green dip if it doesn't improve..... thanks all!!!!

Any thoughts on increasing temp? May cook it, and discus certainly don't hate the heat. My concern would be that whatever that is would thrive in the temp.
