I had this idea for my 220 SA tank. It already has a 29g sump on it with plenty of aeration. In an effort to combat nitrates (which really I want to test for my saltwater tanks), I want to run a seperate, gravity fed drain to a huge PVC pipe filled with media that would lead back to the sump to reoxygenate. In my head, it's maybe 1-2" in diameter that is anywhere from 4-6ft in length. This would be a very slow flow setup. I can provide a picture if that would make more sense. Any ideas or experience if this would work?

Aquarium Domain utilizes long troughs of media for anaerobic bacteria and reports having water changes done only a couple times a year (I would do more for other organics/inorganics in the system).
