The Darien gap is the literal divide between north and South America 68 miles of mountainous jungle rainforest on the Panama side, and lowland rainforest and river deltas on the Colombia side. The area is known for cocaine traffic, lumber production and gold and platinum mining.
I have really spectacular Corue from one of the northernmost populations- rio claro Costa Rica emerald green fish more green than any rivulatus, that are Defintely not the same fish as this…. These come from one of the northernmost rivers in the colombia side of the Darien gap . These ar Defintely not latifrons or pulcher either. New species? Color variant of corue? I have 6 and a pair have set up shop cleaning off a rock and giving the other 4 hell

With that pointed face and those markings, they seem to resemble the rivulatus group more than the pulcher group. Interesting fish.

Very cool!
Beautiful fish. My patriotism is exalted seeing your pictures.

I have stalsbergi in a tank nearby, and I was looking at a couple of my rio claro Corue breeders last week- and all 3 are very different from each other.
You can easily see feature sets from both groups and then looking at the collection area- it really makes it seem like a “transitional” fish. But how much of that is my imagination running wild as I look at 6 juvenile fish… could be plenty of that effect. I’m stoked they spawned. I want to pull the other 4 becuase life is hard up the Anacharis at the other end of that tiny little 20 long. But I don’t want to fuss with them. Let it ride.
