How big does adult angelfish get and how long it takes to get there? I bought mine very small 4 months later they're about 2 inches (the larger one) body size and one pair is breeding.

A simple question that doesn't have a simple answer. The standard mesurment is from the nose to the caudal peduncle (body lenth). Some Angelfish can get pertty big but it usually takes a few years to reach full size. The first year they grow pretty fast but the growth slows after that. The type of angelfish also has a lot to do with max potential. Wild angelfish species range in size from the tallest P. Altum, P. Scalare and P. Leopoldi being the smallest species. Domestics are another story with some veils getting to 15" from tip of dorsal to tip of anal fin. Body size is the only fare way to measure when comparing spices because fins vary. Some domestic crosses can achieve a body size up to 6" and are a truly amazing site to behold in person. P. Altum can reach over a foot from dorsal to anal fin with a body around 4.5-5" for a full grown adult male. However tank size, water quality, diet and genetics are all factures in the ultamate size that will be attained by any particulare fish.

Tom - thanks for the reply. I have not kept angelfish long term before so this helps a lot.

I just put them into a 300g tank with Geos. They were in a 40g breeder but has been growing pretty fast. These are the LFS variety. I bought six. Two of them are the color in the picture and they happened to paired up.

Bad picture they're at the far end of the tank.

Are they brown with some greenish iridescent patches? I have one very similar and wondered what cross breed it was. I call it a Heinz 57, as I'm guessing its a big mixture. Very neat looking fish, though.

The fish pictured is called a smokey leopard veil tail.

Thanks Aquanero. Sorry to highjack horseplay.
Just my limited experience: My oldest angel is a little over 2 years. Approx 5 inches nose to tail (not a veil tail). The first year he grew pretty fast, almost to the size he is. This second year has seen more girth added rather than size, pretty much exactly how Aquanero has described. :)

Mine now seems to have reached the slowing growth phase. They breed on a regular basis.
