any thought or information on the belly crawler pike cichlid?.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

back in May 2013 I picked up this bag of 10 juvies at the gcca classic auction(greater Chicago Cichlid Assn)
They were all between 1"-2", the largest ate all the others (or at least most)
she is now about 5"-6".

She shares a 150 gal S American cichlid community of 8 Guianacara sp, 3 Acarichthys heckelli and half dozen xCichlasoma ornatum, at this point all is peaceful, all these cichlids are about the same size, or much bulkier.

I keep temps in the mid, to low 70sF, current about 1000 gph, influent to sump, and feed super soft spirulina based pellets, alternating with shrimp type pellets.
I also recently picked up a male, but have him in another tank, as he is (so far)half her size, and want to put some size on him before they are introduced.

Thanks a lot appreciate it

I remember the belly flopper call, cracked me up, the parent pair was up for grabs, as were a number of fry bags that day.
This years classic auction is "tomorrow", I'll be there, it's become a yearly pilgrimage for me for over 10 years.
I always end up coming back with something I wasn't expecting to.

I now have the male and female together, so far she hasn't had him for lunch.
Neither of mine are particularly aggressive in the 150 gal, although all current tankmates are not small enough to swallow, there were however, a few Archocentrus nanoluteus, that have all disappeared.

No pikes at this years classic auction, I did pick up 2 adult pairs of Archocentrus sajica and 8 juvie Cryptoheros nicaraguense for just over $20.

I bought some nanoluteus too. I lost them all for some reason. I got some rtm's, bartoni, and nanoluteus. I was sitting up front near the auctioneer.
