Reason why I ask is I'm done with salt/reef... I no longer have the time or desire to truly enjoy it & spend the time needed to make the end result payoff. I'm currently parting out my equipment but am thinking of keeping the tank, stand & canopy & convert it to freshwater. It's a 180 with dual overflows "bottom drilled" & plumbed 16ft below to my basement where it drops into a 60 gall wide sump, which falls to a 200 gallon rubber maid tub before it makes its way back upstairs. I was just curious if anyone has run a dual overflow freshwater set-up & if so are there any problems to look out for. I'm thinking the extra water volume would work in my favor in the FW water. I'm planning on keeping larger more aggressive fish, & using the waste water from water changes in my flower beds.

If your running a similar tank please post pics in this thread so I can see some of your handy work.
Any ideas, tips or suggestions?

My 225 is a reef ready tank. The link is in my signature. I would never buy a tank over 75g that wasn't drilled. I love sumps. If setup correctly there is absolutely zero negatives IMO.

All the biologic processes used in salt are basically the same for fresh just simpler, and most of the equipment can be and is used.
The only real difference is lack of time doing chemistry, iemixing to get water salt/mineral concentrations right, and less light needed (especially if you had a reef).
I have drilled overflow tanks running into rubbermaid sumps, refugiums (planted sumps) and protein skimming on my freshwater tanks.

Just like caulerpa is used in salt, aquatic, semi aquatic, and terrestrial plants can be used.

I use snails and shrimp in the planted sumps, just as in salt refugiums

My 120 in my sig was a reef tank with 5 holes drilled in the back. All the details are in there including running the dirty water out to the yard. The trees and bushes love it!
