Hi, I have kept apistos in the past but never kept pairs, only singular males…. I am looking at potentially getting a pair of viejita for my community. The community is home to a large school of Beckfordi pencils (23 to be exact) and 9 rosy tetra, along with some young clean up crew (Farowella, honeycomb Bristlenose, green dragons, and a flying fox.) I am most likely going to move the Bristlenose soon once they get a bit larger, but am interested to know whether any other fish would interfere if the pair of apistos were to breed…. I know tetras and the like are used as dithers when breeding other fish, but would such a large number of them cause a problem? Would I be best of moving the fry and the female into a breeder tank once eggs are laid? Any advice/help welcome :)

I suggest removing all and add a group of Nannostomus eques aka hockey stick pencilfish. I also would allow the female to care for the fry.
