Congrats, Joerge. You might want to snip a portion of the egg clutch if you want to raise only a handful of the snails. It'll be difficult to cope with a large number of baby apple snails as much as it enthuses someone about it.:D

so what are the next steps to raise a handful of snail babies

Kepp em fed and keep the water clean.I like to keep some crushed coral in the tank for the calcium. Also feed High calcium foods, like collard greens and raisins.

each clutch of eggs (which are laid above the water's surface) can produce upwards of 200 baby snails. Its a big undertaking ot raise them all which is why Lupin suggested breaking off a piece of hte clutch to raise. If you don't decide to raise the young, please crush the clutch or freeze it and discard.

I like to incubate my clutches. They hatch in about 8-9 days that way. I open them at that point into a breeder trap in order to monitor the babies eating and health for hte first month (until about pea-sized). Then I release them into the tank. Its hard to keep water quality really good with siphoning when you have two hundred grain of sand to pin head sized baby snails cruising around.

Be forewarned as well, they can lay clutches every few days for quite awhile so its easy to get overloaded with snails.
