I have approx. 6 in bamboo shark that I have in my 75 gal tank currently. I know I need a larger home for him. What would be the smallest ideal size? I have an oppurtunity to procure a 220 gal tank which is 72*24*29 is that sufficient, or should I go larger. I have read a bunch of different opinions on sizes of tanks to use for this shark. I am am jut trying to get an appropriate tank that the shark will be happy in.

Go longer...I think an 8ft tank would be sufficient...With 2.5ft wide, and 2ft high. Height doesn't really matter as much as length and width though.

for a shark than can get 40"+ your looking at atleast 8x4 and im shure most will say thats on the small side. my lfs has a 30" in a 72x24 210 and it looks awefully cramped.

As stated, move to the shark section for better replies. Keep in mind Bamboo sharks can grow to 3 feet in length. Sharks are really clumsy swimmers too, they require more space than you'd think. Nocturnal species like Bamboos are deceptive, as during the day they mostly laze around. Personally, for an adult bamboo, I'd say a minimum of 8'x3' footprint. Height doesn't really matter. You'd be better off with a stock tank or to make your own shark pond, it'd be cheaper than a tank of the same size.
