i couldnt find it in that link, and i have looked all over google for the answer. thats why im asking it here, cuz im hoping someone knows. or better yet of some here has a genet in either state
According to the above document, "A permit shall be required for any other exotic mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians, or nongame species not specifically exempted by Section 4.4"
A Genet is not listed under Section 4.4, therefore you'll need to apply for an Individual Hobby permit, "issued to persons holding exotic mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians, or nongame species for hobby purpose or as pets." The fee for the permit issue and facility inspection is $10 annually, which means it expires every year and you have to re-apply. From the sounds of it, as long as you can show that you have a proper enclosure and knowledge of the animal, you will be fine.
According to this site Connecticut law only seems to outlaw the ownership of a "potentially dangerous animal", these include large cats, non-domestic dogs, and bears. So it looks like you're fine on that right.
NOTE: I am not a resident of either New Jersey or Connecticut. This information was collected via a short internet search and is summarized to the best of my understanding. Your best option would be to call the appropriate governmental organizations for each of these states, talk with a real person whose job it is to be knowledgeable on the subject, and request information on the specific species you wish to keep.
Genets seems pretty cool.....would you housebrreak it or keep it in an enclosure? I have read they can be litter trained? The scent gland thing might worry me though!
thanks rudukai13, that was the kind of answer i was looking for. and of course ill definatly call someone to confirm what u said before i actually get a genet. thanks man

i would definatly try to house brake it and maybe get an enclosure just to play around in a lil each day. and i think u could have those scent glands removed like they do with pet skunks but im not sure.
if anyone has any conflicting infromation from wat rudukai13 said, please let me know
